Communication strategies of Dell

Introduction

The development of telecommunications and technology that is marked by increasing inventions of revolutionized cellular phone technology and video conferencing technology that remove the obstacle of distance in communicating are nowhere near making a company’s communication strategy successful (Armstrong et al., 2014). Communication is a crucial part of business as it becomes more complex and increases its market reach. In the effort to create a competitive edge over other companies in the same market, the chief information officer of the Dell company developed effective communication strategies that support the company’s business objectives for the customers and partners. In this essay, the main focus is Dell Company and how it has implemented effective communication strategies to achieve certain company goals.

A summary of dell’s communication strategy

Mahoney (2014) discusses how innovative communication processes

Have helped Dell resolve product awareness and trust around the world. The top reason Mahoney holds that position is that currently, the company has made major strides employing more than 90, 000 employees worldwide, and is also listed as one of the most admired companies in the United States. A second reason he holds that position is that Dell has overtaken other major companies in the computer industry and is always able to maintain a competitive edge over other international companies. A third reason Cage (2016), holds that position is crucial in maintaining its reputation and preventing it from becoming rusty and stagnant. The company also needs to observe its internal business environment to maintain a powerful communication strategy (Evans et al., 2016).

Analysis of the company’s communication strategy

As a major company that mainly does its operations online, Dell ensures that they conduct a very efficient and effective communication strategy that is online based that supports their marketing strategy. The company has some online accounts that demonstrate its intention of passing the message to a wider population of consumers and in turn promoting itself as an interactive organization (Armstrong et al., 2014). Dell has a huge number of social media accounts from several online platforms that supply a broad range of information to a targeted audience- from events to product news to customer support. They have many accounts dedicated to many countries in which they operate and display information based on regional requirements.  This is termed as globalization, where branding is the same but products are altered depending on a region’s demands.

Another communication strategy that they use is an annual report that conveys different messages related to the activities of the company. The report comprises five sections which include: innovation, leadership, corporate social responsibility, and customer partnerships. These five aspects represent Dell’s main focus. Additionally, the company sought to create an online community to generate more consumer communication and gain from the user-generated document (Shank & Layberger, 2014). The company is successful in its strategy to communicate within itself and with customers. It has been able to maintain a strong position in the computer market despite falling demand and high competition. Given that it mainly makes online sales, its efforts to create an effective online communication channel have been useful in maintaining awareness and calling for customers. Messages of innovation and quality of products have been supporting the company’s marketing efforts and are ideally suited to benefit its goods and services as Dell continues to operate.

Dell faces a major challenge in e-marketing, this is the inability of the potential buyer to see, touch, or use the product before they purchase it. However, the company has been able to overcome this challenge by offering free one-year services to the buyer that explain the services provided by the products (Barnett et al., 2014). Due to this strategy, online buyers continue to increase day by day, and the global reach has grown considerably over the past few years. The initial challenge was to attract users to the website through effective online marketing, however, through the free tutorials, more customers access the website and order for delivery of the products.

Integration of Dell’s communication strategy into a former company

Dell’s communication strategy would work well for the Brisbane hotel and resort as a marketing strategy to attract visitors from abroad and local areas to visit the resort. Opening various online accounts and channels that help potential visitors air their views and also view the latest products and services would increase the hotel’s customer base and help increase returns in a short period.

Conclusion

Dell has an effective communication strategy that has always helped the company maintain a competitive advantage over its rivals in the computer market and also makes significant profits. The communications operations that involve online channels and accounts on several social media platforms help increase its product awareness around the world, hence increasing its customer base globally.
